Today was the kittens’ last visit to the vet for the rest of the year! They are now finished with all their vaccines at this point and don’t need to return until next year for a check-up and yearly rabies vaccination (and maybe leukemia? I don’t remember if that on’es yearly or not). We do have to go back in 6 months to pick up another 6 month supply of their Advantage Multi (heartworm, flea, tick, and ear mite treatment), but we don’t need to bring the kittens along.
Unfortunately, little Wally now has fleas. We had never seen any before, but today we noticed many of them. The lady at the adoption center told us it was probably from an infestation in the apartment due to a previous renter’s pet or that the fleas were getting through the windows (which don’t always seal well). So we vacuumed with the flea powder, combed out both of the kittens twice, and washed blankets and towels and things, and we plan on doing more laundry tomorrow. We’ve searched and combed Cricket up and down and she surprisingly doesn’t seem to have any fleas. The only reason I can think of is that Wally’s are so recent not to have jumped on her yet (doubtful) or that her fur is just too much for them and doesn’t give them good access to her skin. Poor little Wally though. Following the advice from the animal adoption center, they figure it shouldn’t be more than a few days before the problem is taken care of.
Several of our neighbors moved out recently and some new people have moved in, which is most unfortunate. Our older neighbors for the most part were very quiet and considerate. Most of the people here seem to be families, graduate or medical students, or employees of the VA hospital across the street. The group of new neighbors, however, I think are freshman at UF. They don’t seem to be home often during the day, or if they are, they’re only as loud as everyone else. But at night they can get really loud. They have a habit of hanging out in the parking lot late at night, talking, laughing, yelling at people down the street. And even when they’re not doing that, they’re still loud, talking, slamming doors, and even just their general footsteps are louder than our previous neighbors. Sometimes I can’t tell where the noise is coming from and I don’t know if these new people are all roommates in one condo or if there are several new groups of people who have moved in; if it’s only one apartment full of people, they certainly make enough noise for about 3 apartments full of people.
Oh well, I will get used to it and business will continue as usual.
